About fifteen years ago I bought a double wide seat for the 50 60 70 series tractors from a small town JD dealer. I found it in their attic and inquired of the oldest gentleman there what it was. He said it was called a demonstrator seat and came out at the time the 50 and 60 tractors were introduced. It looks exactly like the regular seat only wider. I am now restoring a 70D which I intend to put it on. Does anyone have any info on these. Thank you.

I am not looking for a seat. I would like info on the John Deere seat I have. How many made, if made for a special purpose, etc.

I don't know that you'll be able to find out how many were made, but I they were made to be installed on a dealer "demo" tractor. They provided enough toom for a dealer rep to ride along with the farmer and demonstrate machine operation to him. When the "demo" tractor was sold, the original seat was put back on and the demo seat was available to be installed on another tractor. Same concept as the instructional seats that are available in new Deere equipment today. They are incorrectly referred to as "buddy seats", and are really intended for machine diagnosis and operator instruction, not for the wife or kiddies to ride along with Dad. There are parade seats available from aftermarket suppliers, but having two people on a two-cylinder isn't the safest thing to do.
