Did you contact the seller and discuss what you are unhappy about with your purchase? There is no need to run down someone unless you try working out your problem with what you bought.

What do you do if you try to resolve the situation (water in oil when radiator is filled - represented as nothing wrong with it) and they (Ben Burns from Minnesota) refuse to do anything? What are your options then, Buddy? There are are some real theives out there and the only way to save other people from these crooks is to advertise warnings about them, ban them from this website, or have a place where buyers who got royally screwed can lodge a complaint which is attached to the sellers name. Then new buyers can look at the sellers history before buying and see if there are a lot of good or bad statements made against them. It would maybe force these theives to take care of their "customers".

I think most people would not consider it name-calling by identifying individuals who intentionally screw people over in order to make a buck off their junk. I and others would probably not want to go through what you did. I think you should name this individual to warn others.

Kevin, I had a bad experience purchasing a tractor (John Deere H)from a guy in Illinois that was auctioned on Ebay. I contacted the man several times via email before the auction ended with questions about the tractor's condition and he was quick to respond with positive information. After I won the auction, the seller suggested I could save some money by having the tractor shipped to a location in New York where he had other equipment being shipped. Instead of driving 1500 miles round trip to pickup in Illinois, I could drive 500 miles RT and pickup in New York for $100 more. This was a no brainer so I sent full payment + $100 for shipping. The tractor was suppose to be shipped within a "Few Weeks". After SIX months, several emails, calls to Illinois, calls to New York, the tractor was still not delivered. Finally I had enough and scheduled a trip to Illinois. I contacted the seller and he assured me that the tractor would be ready for pickup and someone would be there to assist me in loading. When I arrived, the tractor was sitting out in a field surrounded by junk, and nobody was there to help load! To make a long story short, I loaded the tractor alone in the rain, got a parts tractor thrown in because the tractor I purchased was NOT as represented, and was told by the seller's father that his son would mail my $100 back to me when he got home from trucking in a few days. That was almost 2 years ago and I am still waiting for my $100! I have not named this seller as I don't condone name calling but he is still active selling tractors and posts on this board. From this lesson I now reserch sellers by calling other tractor buyers, brokers,& dealers in their area and ask about their reputation. This has been helpful but nothing is a sure thing!

What do you mean by "not pleased" This is a general statement, that could refer to shipping, condition, clearing customs, time of arrival, or attitude of truck driver. What does the fact that the tractor came from Canada have to do with your being 'not pleased'? I have found crooked and nice people on either side of the border....

I thought I would pass along some information to the people on this board who want to purchase a tractor from Canada. I have purchased 2 John Deere tractors from a man in Manitoba (Patrick Mossett) and am well satisfied with what I got. I know some people have had bad experiences purchasing tractors from Canada, but this may be for several reasons. (1)Because of a difference of opinion on condition. (2) Because of not understanding shipping practices. (3)Because of sellers who are not willing to disclose information that may halt the sale. First, I would make a list of questions most important to you about a tractor you are interested in(engine condition, rubber, paint, etc.),and call the owner or broker. This will clarify what you are buying and it's condition. Also it will allow you to "Feel out" the seller and see how he conducts business. If you cannot get straight answers, beware! Second, ask the seller what the "TOTAL" shipping cost will be to your location, approximate arrival time, and what type of unloading conditions are required. Shipping costs vary depending on how many tractors the trucking company is hauling in that load and how far they must travel. Shipping/arrival time depends on how fast the seller can fill a load to a particular area. You might wait several months until a seller has a truck load of tractors sold, for them to be shipped to the US. Most of the time a seller will contact you when your tractor is being loaded and give you an approximate arrival time. This may vary due to weather conditions, extended unloading times, etc. Flexability is very important for deliverys. Conditions for unloading depend upon the type of truck delivering your tractor. Most trucks require some type of dock for unloading (unless they have ramps) and easy access. DO NOT expect the tractor to be delivered to your home unless you have a dock. Most buyers have thier tractor delivered to a local tractor dealer. They will usally unload the tractor on thier docks for a small fee. Third, I would immediatly give the tractor a "once over" to make sure this is what you purchased. If there are any problems give the seller a call. Don't wait two weeks to call with a complaint. Get the problem resolved ASAP! Most Canadian Sellers are willing to go the extra mile for you to be happy with your purchase. An unhappy customor could be very detremental to their business. As with any sellers or brokers there are a few to steer clear of. Talk to other buyers at shows or on this board to hear their experiences. Just My Thoughts.

I bought a JD from a man in Canada, he sent me photos,a video tape and when I picked it up(1500 miles round trip) I found he represented the tractor honestly. Can't paint everyone with the same brush.

I bought my 1010 from a guy who hauled it down from Canada to an auction here. It actually sold at auction, wasn't paid for, I contacted him later by phone and worked out a deal to buy it. The whole transaction was pleasant and seemingly comfortable for both of us.
