I got to thinking about that post a year ago or so about the first 530 built. Has anyone else ever heard what happened with that whole situation? Tried looking in the archives and the same original posts are there wtih no update. Just curious.

I was in on those posts also. We adviced him to get it authenticated, but it was the last we heard from him. This may have been a mistake. The first of some models have been found and most are in private hands. Some will be lost forever. Its rumoured the last streeter D assembled had its tag inscribed by the workers, "last one". The last G made tours around Iowa, The first model R is in Toav's collection in Montana. I've seen pictures of the first 830 owned by a lady in Kansas. And the first 80 is privately owned in Iowa.

I have # 53000042 and am curious to know how many have survived out of the total production. I can understand the importance of being first or last in the chow line but whats the big attraction with high or low tractor serial numbers?

John I totally agree. Just as long as you have a model YOU like, who cares if it's the first, last or anywhere in between! People get "hung up' on such crazy things.

John does indeed have his priorities straight - that "first or last in the chow line" is danged important - been there, done that!!

I wish my memory was better but I was just at Moline last weekend and there was a tractor there with 001 serial no. think it might have been a 530, guess I'm gonna have to start writing things down (gol durn CRS syndrome)

I think you are right. I was in Moline a few years ago and I think they did have the first 530 displayed.

you are correct from what I gathered from other posts. Deere has on display 53000001 (give or take a 0 or two) The gentleman in question thought he had 5300000 0. I was just curious if he ever found out if it was authentic or not.

KrisA,

All the information I've seen states that the first 530 was 5300000, and that it was shipped to Madison, Wisconsin. Does that make the one at Moline the 2nd one made? The mystery continues, and maybe someone on here can clear it up for us.

Along the same lines, the information also lists the first 630 as being 6300000. I saw 6300001 (I think) at a tractor show at Myerstown, Pennsylvania in maybe early June of 1999. At the time I thought it was the first one built, but again, who knows?

The information I looked at (The "Brown Book" and the "Gray Book" (both printed by the ASAE and copyrighted by Deere) and info from articles in Green Mag) all gives the same serial number (6300000 and 5300000) as being the first ones.

I'm sure someone will feel that Two Cylinder has better info, so let's find out.

Stan

My book (The John Deere Tractor Data Book by Lorry Dunning) also shows 5300000 as the first 530 gasoline, built Aug 4, 1958. It has no shipping info.

Hope you figure something out. Fireman

Fireman,

That date agrees with the info from Green Mag, so the Wisconsin shipping destination is probably right. Interestingly enough, the John Deere Data Book is a good mix of the "brown book" and the "gray book". The gray book made some corrections, especially in the late '30s time frame - I think it had something to do with fiscal year vs. candendar year vs. model year. The gray book seems to be the best source of info, however.

Have a good day,

Stan
