Why is there a difference in the cylinder of a D block? I have worked on three D's and noticed the top (non-piston travel area) has very small ridges in it. There is then a small 1/8 inch ridge and then the smooth piston ring travel area. It seems like the block had to be bored from both directions to achieve this. The small ridge is not the piston ring wear ridge. When JD bored the block, did they not go all the way through?

Im not sure if there was a power block for the D. What you are talking about is common on the power block.
