I'am pretty sure now my hard starting G has a compression problem, in other words its due for a major overhaul. My question is, is there a cast iron .090 or .125 gas ( high comp.) piston or do I have to start shopping for a pair of aluminum pistons? I'am not sure yet but I'll probably have to go .125 to get all the little pits out. On another note I did some calling around to some venders that advertise in the Green Mag. and Two Cly. magazines and I could note believe the price differance, anywhere from $375.00 to $600.00 a pair, what gives with that? All included pins and rings. Ol Mark in In.

Mark, keep in mind that low compression can also be caused by valve problems, such as burnt valves, bad seats or improper valve lash. You could also have some sort of restriction in the intake system, so you might consider checking that out as well. I would do a wet compression check and inspect the entire intake system before condemning the pistons and rings, as it will be cheaper to check those things first. My two cents.

Mark, to the best of my knowledge only cast iron pistons were std and 045. My G was in bad shape, I had the block bored and sleeved and used the orginal std cast iron pistons, the orginal were in good shape. I think if I remember right it only cost me about $425 for boring, sleeves and resurfacing.I got new rings and over size piston pins from Deere Take a look at my website and see for yourself. Mark take your block and pistons to a machine shop (Cornetts in Somerset Ky does a good job)and have them to sleeve your block to fit the pistons you got. How about them apples I'll bet its a whole lot cheaper than 675 bucks. just a idea I' getting ready to do mmy W-Engine that way Gman
