Just rebuilt the mag on the 39-b a Wico-C ,new points ,condencer, rotor, cap, solid core wires, and plugs. The impulse dogs are engaging ok and I am getting a good snap so that seems ok.She is throwing a healthy blue spark on the left side but nothing on the right. What could be wrong. Thanks in advance

You might have a bad cap or rotor could even have a bad wire on the bad side. New parts can be defective. You might have worn point opening lobes. See if the points are opening the same for both sides. Make sure the rotor is aligning with the cap for both sides 1 fires first then 2 fires 180 dg later. You could have a slipping impulse that won't work 2 times in a row. You did try new plugs. Post back or email for more help. Earl

Dan, since shes throwign a healthy spark on one side, that tells us the coil is okay and the remaining problem areas could be the cap, rotor, plug or wire on that bad side. First, try substituting plugs and wires to that bad side and see if you can get any fire then. If not, then the problem may be in the cap or even a crack or carbon path somewhere arcing off the spark to that particular plug terminal. Are the points opening to approximately the same gap on both cam high lobes??? Check the gap at each. When the mag is ready to snap over and fire the top terminal (left pistion at TDC on compression strke), the rotors leadign tip is before the top terminal and then passes over it when she snaps, then 180 later, its the rotors second lagging tip that passes by the bottom terminal. Inspect the rotor for that timing and its two tips to see if theres any difference and the cap where that line up occurs. I assume the dogs catch and wind the spring and she snaps over equally on BOTH firings?? Try this and clooneys suggestions and let us know. Good Luck, Ol John T Nordhoff

Dan, probably the place to start is to pull the outer mag cap & make sure the rotor is lining up with the proper cap tower when the L/H impulse on the flywheel is lining up with the case mark. Then turn the flywheel 180 & make sure the rotor is lining for #2 also. If that is ok, make sure the inner cap brass contact is touching the coil secondary button [you really can't see in there so either pull the inner cap & use lipstick to check for button contact or just bend it so you are sure it is touching].
~Make sure the points are opening for both cylinders [maybe you have a worn point cam lobe]
set the points to .016"-.017" & see if that helps the problem.
~You should probably check for spark on both cap towers right at the cap as you could have a bad wire or bad connection.
~If the above doesn't help the problem, start substituting the old parts until you find the problem. Let us know what you find, I'm betting it is the inner contact clip not touching the coil button [especially if you aren't getting a continuous occurring spark on the L/H side...
