Can an oil pressure gauge be cleaned?

Excuse my ignorance, I'm still new at this. I have a 51 B and the oil pressure gauge has oil in it and it is unreadable. I figure this is a faily common occurance. Can this gauge be disassembled an cleaned, or are they shot once this happens? Is there an aftermarket replacement that won't set me back $60? I mean can I go to Autozone or someplace like that and pick up a non-Deere replacement that would work? p.s. I look at the restoration job (I'll let others debate that definition of that) that the kid 2 and 1/2 times younger than I am did and am amazed, we should all be proud of him and his work. I would be thrilled if my B looked 1/2 as good when I'm finished fumbling through this project. Thanks in advance, Have a great Thanksgiving, we all have much to be thankful for, Bill

Bill, once they're full of oil there is a good chance the gage has an internal leak so it is probably not worth saving.
~The gage diameter is the same as most auto parts gages but the "B" runs at much less oil pressure than most automobiles so the "B" will probably show low oil pressure on the auto type gage. The gage face & markings won't match the Deere original look either.

I have used some of those Auto Zone or Pep Boys general purpose generic fit all oil pressue gauges which work, and one shop was like $19.95 I think. The only thing I disliked, was they are calibrated like up to 60 lbs or so, while the JD's carry fairly low oil pressure, not giving you too much needle deflection. I think there were enough thin tube/pipe plumbing adapters with the gauge packet to get them physically connected. Seems like the brand name was Sun Pro or something?? You might also try a JD wrecking yard and pick one up there for 5 bucks or so. Due to their light material and relatively flimsy construction, it may be difficult to disassemble, repair the leak, and reassemble your original unit if its leaking through between the glass and case. Happy Thanksgiving Ol John T
