I have a 5 hp Honda engine on my log splitter and it has been running great until yesterday. It all of a sudden started running rough and backfiring. Does anyone have any ideas on what the cause could be and how to fix it? Thanks, John

Hey i work on hondas everyday. I will just bet ya that your low oil sensor is bad. Unplug the plug coming out of the block on the side where the on off switchis also some have a little square diode that goes bad. but if you unplug the oil sensor and diode. And it runs good thats your problem. There not to hard to replace you just have to pull the crancase cover and take it out it will cost you about 100$.

The very first thing I would try, since its so cheap n easy, would be clean or probably just replace the spark plug. Next, if theres any sort of a drain on the carb, I would open it and see if theres any water in the fuel system, even if it was merely removing the fuel line to the carb and letting some fuel run through to purge it a little. Next, if theres any kind of fuel filter or bowl somewhere in the fuel system, I would check that for clogging up or water, clean and purge. Good Luck, Ol John T
