Has anyone ordered classic tractor parts from John Deere online? If so, what has your experience been? I ordered parts for my Model 40 on Monday, followed up with emails to the local dealership that I was directed to - twice, but no response. Does the system work or do I have a lazy dealer?

Thanks,

Michael

If your not getting any satisfaction with this particular dealer , I would try another one. It's better to find out sooner than later if their service is poor.

My dealer in Goshen IN is very good about getting what I need if it is available at all. They even drop the parts or supplies off on my front porch. They are about 35 miles from me. The dealer either makes it or breaks it. You might try doing your ordering over the phone. If they have any questions about your order they can ask them at time of ordering.

I think that the dealer is really the critical link in regards to making sure the customer gets what he needs as well as making sure the customer knows when the order is ready.

I'm fortunate to have a dealer (Revels Tractor in Fuquay NC) who is very good with emailing me about my order. As a matter of fact the last order I made through JD Parts Online somehow did not make it to the dealer and they notified me about the problem that day so that I was not left waiting for an order that never would have arrived. They usually send a confermation email to me to tell me when the parts are expected to be ready.

As far as the JD Parts Online system goes, I do like being able to see what is still available as well as knowing the cost up front. Knowing what the dealer has on his shelf is a strong point too. I think with a tractor as old as mine (model 50) that it's a fact of life that parts are going to have to be ordered, but then again the shipping is pretty quick so I really can't complain.

As far as having an account with the dealer goes, it isn't necessary if you are going to pick the parts up yourself. You simply have to email the dealer when making an order to let them know the shipping/payment arrangements.

Regards,
John

Depends a lot on the dealer you are working with.

I've used JD online parts ordering with no real problems. You need to have an account with the dealer for it to work I believe. It's nice being able to check prices and whether your dealer has it in stock also. Usually if I order online I'll send an email to the dealer before I go to pick the stuff up to make sure it's in. You can also have the parts shipped to you if you like and then you'll get a bill from your dealer.

In my opinion there is no substitute for cultivating a good relationship with a local parts man. i.e. I was ordering individual gaskets and came to one that was not available, they suggested it might be available as a set, it was and the set cost me less that the few individual gaskets I wanted.

I ordered some parts for my 9W mower and when I went to pick them up at first they didn't know anything about them. They were looking into them when another guy came along and said they were in a sack in the parts area. Presto, there they were. I told them it would be nice to get a confirmation back but I guess the system works. Good luck.
