I recently had the starter of my 4010 repaired and I put the wires back on the same posts as they came off. I took several pictures of the wires before removal. After re-adjusting the wires i finally got the gen light to come on when the key is turned. I have noticed the wire that goes from the starter to the push switch is not recieving any power. The service manual has a picture of a starter and makes reference to wire color. My starter doesn't look like the one in the book and not all the wire colors are on the tractor. I am trying to put a picture of the starter somewhere on this site. Which direction is the power go in reference to the switch (starter -> push switch OR push switch -> starter)? Is there something else that I am missing?

Hey! guys, The 4010 has the start safety switch up by the shifter controls under the dash.
When properly adjusted and with the transmission shift lever in a neutral position, the operating arm should be centered on the switch spring and the switch and bracket should be deflected forward 1/8 inch. If it is not loosen cap screws and relocate operating lever to correct.
This is from service manual SM-2039 John Deere 4000 series tractors.

The 3020 and 4020 and other have it on the side of the transmission.

Try wiggling the shift lever while you're trying to start the tractor. You could have a nuetral start switch out of adjustment or going bad. It will be located on the RH side of the transmission case and should have two wires going to it. I don't have a schematic right here, but power should travel from the push button to the neutral start switch and then to the start terminal on the solenoid. That's where I would start.
