This is probably going to sound like a very fundamental question to most of you, but please bear with me as I'm new at this.

I'd like to know how to check and adjust the engine speed on a 48 A. The I&T Manual says to adjust the speed to 1080 rpm at high idle with no load. What equipment is needed to test this, how do you do it, etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need a hand held tachometer. You contact the center of the crankshaft on the flywheel side. You open the tractor throttle open all the way. There is a adjustment screw on the steering column. If running too fast. You close down the throttle a little and adjust the screw to meet the shaft that touches it. Too slow, you move the screw in to let the throttle open further. The link I have put on, is like the one we use to set governors. We also use it the set the cylinder speeds for our Case thresher. Hope this helps.
