I've used NAPA hardener # 8010 with John Deere thinner and have had excellent results.

Stick with clooney. You must use a synthetic enamel hardener for your john deere paint. I have used "western" brand hardener from bumper to bumper. I don't think its real critical what manufacturers product you use so long as it is for synthetic enamel paint.

Don, Deere paint is a synthetic enamel & needs a synthetic enamel hardener & reducer. Well at least the synthetic hardener. Conventional acrylic enamel reducer will work but not as good as synthetic reducer.
~Your best bet is to go to your local paint supply store & have them recommend their products for synthetic enamel. If your local auto parts store carries "Autobody Master" products I have found that their 8132 synthetic hardener works good as well as their synthol synthetic reducer. ~I don't recommend you use the PPG DXR80 hardener as that is a urethane hardener made for acrylic enamel & about all it will do is be a very expensive thinner. According to my paint rep it won't chemically link with the synthetic enamel to form the chemical hardening needed to harden the paint properly. It probably won't harm the paint process but you won't gain anything either.
~If you are going to use a hardener in your paint, that stuff contains Isocyanates & those are extremely harmful to your health. You need at the very least a canister type respirator with fresh canisters every day or better yet a fresh air supply system. Do a little research before using anything with Isocyanates in it..

Someone on here had mention painting a Clearcoat over a hardened paint... I was thinking of trying a few little parts to see what happens... Anyone have any comments... (I know I should have a basecoat mixed to match, but might as well try it.)??

JDGnut, see the link to a little post I did for a fellow on the paint board. What you want to do can be done but you risk problems. If you haven't painted yet I recommend using a 2 stage paint from the ground up. The reason I tried it was because I had to sand the paint anyway & I just wanted to see if I could do it. One thing about urethane clear coat is it is harder than squirrels nuts.

The best-easiest hardener I have found is PPG DXR80 and of course reducer DTR601 or 602, depending on temperature.
