How many tractors on a trailer

I am planning on replacing my single capacity car trailer with a gooseneck trailer in the 27' to 30' range, 102" width, 10/12 ton weight. Wondering how many tractors, say in the 'A' size range, narrow front, can be loaded onto a trailer of this length. I've seen some 'interesting' techniques used before at auctions, but am wanting to stay legal and safe. Thanks.

We have a 30 ft tri axel goose neck. I have no Idea What the trailer is rated. The most weight we have ever had on it has got to be a D-9 CAT Dozer. The 1990 Chevy Duely with a 454 Didn't like it very much. just my imput Trapper jr

Most of us run overweight and don't even know it. Depending on the state if you go over 26,000 total weight you need fuel stickers, Class A CDL, log book, etc, etc. And dont forget your truck and trailer must be tagged for the weight you are hauling. I tag my F250 at 25,999 and try to stay below it so DOT doesnt eat my lunch. Florida charges $0.05 a pound for every pound over 10,000 if you are over your declared weight. Could get pricey to haul too many tractors.

I have a 28' gooseneck (which is 23 flat with 5' pop up dove tail). We have hauled 3 tricycle tractors on it, but were most likely overloaded..... .or at least my truck thought so. What most people don't realize, or don't think about, is that even though the axles are rated at 10,000 a piece, you can't haul 20,000#s. My trailer weighs 6200 by itself, so you can only haul about 14k on the trailer. Therefore, if the tractors weigh 5k a piece, the third one would make it overloaded. I have hauled 14500 on my trailer before, with a F250 ford, but I am sure glad the DMV didn't see me. Total gvw was around 27k which should require CDL drivers liscense.

Hope this helps.

Somehow I knew I should have never said anything about what brand of truck I was driving. Sure to get into a p****** contest sooner or later. Only thing I can say is that my FORD has 120k miles on it, and AIN'T SKEERED of all I can put on that 28' trailer. Will run faster than I care to pull the load. Probably still has enough power left to tow your Chevy behind the trailer.

Hi Tom, my 1940 A weighs in at #4580 with me on her, thats with full tank of gas, full cooling system and oil ,no extra weights or fluid in tires. Myself, I only way about #160. so I'd say to be safe and legal, your looking at two A sized tractors on a 10 or 12 ton trailer, maybe 3 on a 12 ton. Just my 2 cents . Ron

Tom, you will most likely be limited by weight. I have a tandem dual trailer with a 25 foot flat deck and have hauled three tractors on it. These were narrow front tractors that could be "sandwiched". If you are hauling wide front tractors you would be limited to two. Be sure to tie them down securely. Mike
