Today I was messing with my 730lp.I put two fingers over the top of the air intake and the tractor started to cut out.Hard to belive that that little bit of air restriction would have that kind of a reaction,,Then I took the oil bath pot off the bottom , and try to crank the tractor and it would NOT START.WHY?? no restriction,, I put the oil bath pot back on and it starts,,, How come I can start my gasoline tractor without the oil bath pot? Ben

You are taking in too much air, and it dillutes the propane.

Don't forget, Ben, that the LP gas regulator operates much like Jacque Cousteau's scuba regulator in that it takes vacuum to lift the diaphram valve and get gas out of the tank. The diaphram in the regulator is lifted by the intake manifold vacuum and that in turn gives it propane. Could the diaphram be cruddy? Or maybe perforated?
