Clooney I Ran my 39b several times this afternoon doing some chores. I dont think my sediment bowl is shutting off. Now here is the question. The last two times i went to start it it made a VERY loud pop on the exhaust stroke when the impule fired. It never done that till today. So i turned the valve on the sediment bowl off and opened the bottom of the carb and it just kept coming out never shutting off like it should. Now could the diluted oil come by the rings and the impulse on the exhaust stroke ignite it. I dont thinks its timing because it doesnt back fire any other time nor does it kick back when your turning it over Thanks

Chris, do you mean you have a sediment bowl screw in shut off or are you turning off the 3 way valve (gas/fuel/off) ?? The sediment bowl shut offs can get dirt or foreign material between the shut off and seat and do exactly as you described. Often, a simple disassembly, clean out and reassembly can cure the problem. Even if the shut off doesnt work, however, as long as the carbs float and needle valve shuts off properly, no gas should overflow the carbs bowl or get into the cylinders or crankcase causing the problem you describe. If you get excess raw gas in the cylinders and/or crankcase, that sure can cause the noise you described. Other things (besides excess raw gas where it shouldnt be) that can cause your problem are sticky valves and timing or mag impulse troubles. I suggest you change the oil, repair the shut off assembly, and let the tractor die each time by shutting off the sediment bowl valve and let her run out of gas. Good Luck, Ol John T Nordhoff in Indiana

Chris, yes that's entirely possible. If the crankcase is full of fuel fumes you can assume the cylinders & exhaust probably are also.
