The R&P from any late (1957) 420 after serial number 125,000, 430 & 440 & will bolt right into the 435. No matter if four speed, five speed, live pto or transmission pto. The gas R&P are 14% slower & more desirable to some operators. The R&P from a pre 31,000 JD 1010 have the same paper part number, different numbers on the casting but are physically bigger/better material. They are supposed to fit right into a late 420,430,435,440. Personally haven't tried it but recently recieved this info from a trusted source. I got caught with a typo or outright error in a Nov 8th 1962 Deere issued memo stating the post 31,000 JD 1010 R&P was supposed to fit in post late 420's,430,435 & 440 . These much bigger gears would require relieving the top of the transmission case for the ring gear. The pinion shaft would have to be shortened or the final drives moved back. Needle$$ to $ay, the stock 435 gears went back in behind a non stock engine with Amsoil 2000 series synthetic racing lube and some prayer. A set of final reduction gears from a post 31,000 serial number 1010 will slow the "W" chassis 420,430,435,440 tractors another 15%. If the 435 ever has to come apart both gear changes will be made. Being able to reverse at less than racing speeds is personally important. 1st would be a true creeper gear. Tractor pulling could also be done in 2nd,3rd or 4th instead of currently in just 1st & 2nd. Old dirty low grade oil contaminated with rain water/condenstion will wreck any R&P. The higher HP 420,430,435 & 440's were plenty HP for the R&P used. When heavy ballast was installed and the engine lugged with heavy draft loads in 1st or 2nd gear the R&P's had problems. Worse if the trans lube was substandard and it often is.
