Just had the dist. rebuilt and am getting ready to reinstall it. First question ,should I lube the gear shaft real good before putting back in,and should'nt there be a place to oil the gear shaft periodocally under normal working conditions? I see there is what looks like a hexagon cap just below where shaft goes in ,is this the place to oil it,and is there a proper level to considerkeeping it at? As always thanks for any and all comments, also I need to thank Clooney and Wayne in Tenn. ,ya'll givin me a lot of good advice ,much appreciated. Robert in La.

That hex cap is the tach drive location. The distributer is lubed with #30 (I think) oil in the hole just under the large part of the housing on the shaft just above the flange where the clpam screws go. The hole has abour a 1/2 inch screw plug in it. No other oil or grease is necessary. When you put the distributer back, be sure to get the offset key in the right direction and not off 180 degrees.
