Our community is writing a grant to request funds to build a public Antique Transportation Museum. The museum will house old tractors, trucks and wagons from the area. We want a place that will preserve the old vehicles our ancestors once used for their livelihood. Such a museum will provide an educational opportunity for the public and our children.

We see alot of the farm history being weathered away, cut up for scrap iron and sold off at auctions. We want a place where people can loan or donate items of historical significance. We started an antique tractor show / demonstration 5 years ago at the county fair. This event has grown significantly.

The grant requires us to pay 25% of the building cost. That will be approximately $29,000.

Do any of you have experience, ideas or suggestions for raising funds to get the 25%? It would be nice to raise the money in line with the museum. We live in a small Central Kansas farming community with easy transportation access.

Thanks

I have limited experience in the area, but wanted to touch on spending the right money to get money.

Probably your biggest contributors will be from corporate contributors or estates. In either case an effective portfolio can swing the deal. Just as the literature we pick up creates an image for us, so should your project. Good photos and nicely printed pages that create interest.

Lastly, you may be faced with sponsership. Decide how you want to handle funding that comes with advertising. Obviously its a powerful tool (just look at NASCAR).

Its a great concept, my gut tells me your going to do great!
