Does anyone have any experience with aftermarket battery boxes for a 4020D. I need a set and was wondering if the aftermarket ones are any less expensive and what the quality of them are or should I just get them from the JD dealer. If anyone knows of a source for the aftermarket ones that are less expensive please let me know. At the dealer they are $81 a piece. Thanks.

I got a 65 model 4020 diesel this past summer and it had new boxes on it and from the cheap way they are made I would say that they are well, crap. Still on there but I would like to do what was mentioned like the 4000 tractor. Its a pain in the you know where to fool with the boxes and lock them up. Having it like the 4000 would make charging and jumping off easier too if there is enough room to reach the posts. I posted a pic of it in the tractor photos. Just love it too death, don't know how I ever ran a custom hay business without a loader.
Hope this helps.

If you have some old metal around just make the boxes yourself...or just make a little platform and use tarp straps to secure the batteries...

This summer i got a aftermarket battery box for my 4020. It fit ok and looks ok but it's not as nice as one from John Deere.

try ask the dealer how much battery part that sits on a 71 JD 4000, just like mine with out the looking box, on the 4000 does't use a box, it use part that sits on and top holds battery down. check it out.
dont remember cost. I just got new parts.

The aftermarket are cheaper, however the brackets are bolted on instead of made with box. I installed a set for a person by the time I put them together and then had to do some grinding to get them to hinge correctly they ended up costing more than Deeres boxes.
