I have a dltx 18 carb. It's been on a parts tractor siting out in the weather for 20+ years. Would like to know the best way to get it apart without breaking the threads off. Heat? air impact? just twist and hope? any comments would be appricated.
Thanks Heath

I use heat first and then if it doesn't come loose easy I take a file and sacrifice the nut by filing to the edge of the threads being careful not to cut into them . Do not force it as the cast iron is very brittle and will snap easy. I haven't lost one yet.

Heat, don't force it in any way, if it doesn't come loose easily the first time you heat it, let it cool and heat again. It will come off easily with little force if you take your time.
If the threads are in bad shape you can use a die to re-trace the threads and clean them up.
When you assy., with all your gaskets in place, run the nut up and just snug it, if it leaks a bit tighten slightly until the leakage stops. That way you don't break anything going back together. I doubt you'll have any trouble getting the bowl off with the use of heat and paitence.

probably you could heat it before using any force, but the main thing is if the threads are bad they will break anyway upon assembly etc. The base is about 1/4 thick and the nut should be brass. A light impact wrench should also do the trick.
