I was working on my 46-A thermostate housing and droped a brass fitting down to the bottom of the block. It was the size of a quarter. I did not have happy words to say! Is this going to cause a problem if I leave it there? I have also a water pump on this tractor. Also I was wondering what is the danger zone for the water temperature on a 46-A. I have a 195 degree thermostate in it with a very healthy overhaul in it also.

Many thanks!!

Dave T.

that one person was right when he said the water comes from the rad. so it should just fine sittin in the bottom of the block an will hopefully be able to get it out next time you drain the water.

Thank you ALL for your advise!! Last night I removed the lower rad hose pipe and was able to fish the fitting out with a wire. Boy do I feel better!!!!!

I once dropped a small broken stud into a pushrod hole in my Ford ranger truck. It was a blind passage and covered with oil. I fished it out!!!! eith a magnet on a rod. (Sold at car parts stores and is a very strong magnet) Try this unless it is buried under a ledge.Rod is like a pen and is very nice to have.

If that water pump is like the ones used on later A's, the pump will get it's water from the radiator meaning your part will have to go up to the top of the radiator and down through it to cause a problem.

If this is the plug that goes in the water jacket why don't you drop the bottom hose and wash it out cuz if it does get to the pump something will be damaged if it goes thru the pump . Thats my 2 cents worth.

I would not worry about it. It might someday work it way to the drain plug if it is small where it might fall out the next time you drain the water. My 2 cents.Good Luck. Ben
