Well, this is what I found out. It is a 6 inch bore, has a 2 inch pin, and the compression height is 4-1/2. They are from National Transit Engines. And here comes the big kicker!!! The man has over 500 of them yes 500 new in wax paper. Now if only we had something to do with them..

That's a shame, they would probably work for something like a bored out "A", if it wasn't for that huge wrist pin diameter. I don't believe Deere has anything with a pin that big, at least my "G" doesn't. They're also pretty heavy to be used as a replacement piston.

An A?? maybe an A powerblock with some machining on the top.. it would fit in a 70G (but might has well go a little bigger with the correct pin size.) The pin can be adapted.. but with a piston that is that heavy.. The 2 cylinder diesels have piston pin that is bigger than the 2".. but a bigger bore.. (except the stock R's.) JDGnut

Yes, I was thinking of it as a piston for a powerblock. Is it possible to bore and sleeve a standard "A" block that big? I think the weight of the thing and trouble of adapting the wrist pin would probably be more trouble than it is worth.

Yes the A block could be sleeved to 6in.. its a little different than just boring a block and installing a sleeve.. Actually the pistons pin is not much of a problem.. this is done all the time.. Make a bushing for the piston to fit stock pin.. You can even offset the hole in the bushing to change compression, rod length or whatever.. Sometimes the bushings are welded to the piston to keep them from working out.. JDGnut

Kinda looks like one. There would be numbers on it. If I remember correctly my 70D had 6 rings but the top one is reinforced. And also those big old oil pulls and other monsters that had 2,000 CI motors had giant pistons too!

With 500 of these, one can go into the business making nitelights for sidewalks. Install some kind of a base & 15watt bulb hooked in series. If you hit one with the mower, you'd be first to know!! RLA
