A couple of months back there was a message about a 60, I think, that the lift would leak down under load. Knowing my 720 had a similar problem that I would fix when time permitted, I was smart enough to keep to the guidance given. Unfortunately, I am not smart enough to know where I kept it.

Using my I&T service manual it suggest that I issolate the source of the problem using a test fixture manufactured by R.B. Percision Tools in Ionia, Michigan. The test fixture screws in place of the throttle valve. I remember previous suggestions refered to screwing out the throttle valve, but I don't remember a test fixture.

Assuming the 720 is similar to the 60 already discussed, would y'all mind helping identify the problem again.

Also, I've searched the web pretty good with no luck finding R.B. Precision Tools in Ionia. If I need this tool an e-mail address would be appreciated if anyone has.

tks

Matthew, you will find there are many differences between & 60 or 70 & a 720 in everything including the power-trol.
~While you can make a throttle valve sealing tool or if you look far enough might even find one, the best way [at least in my opinion] is to just install a new seal on the lift piston & see where that takes you. It isn't that hard & is probably needed anyhow.
~In most cases that is the problem anyway. ~If after installing a new piston seal it still settles, you will then need to determine if you have a check valve or other internal valve or cylinder sealing problem. My guess is the new piston seal will get you going....

Clooney, thanks for your help. A couple of months later I found the time to work on 720 powr-trol. You were correct in your assumption, piston ring solved the problem. Also, it wound up being an easy job. Unlike my repair manual implied, I was able to carefully work out the piston without removing the rockshaft. One thing though if you get this note. There is a paper backing washer that goes in the same ring grove as the O-ring. It was not elastic at all and I could not imagine how to get it into the piston ring grove without tearing or cutting it. I opted to cut it at a diagonal. Did I do the right thing or is my repair job short lived?

thanks very much for the help.
