I have a smaller shop 18 30 built on a slope with three step down bays.It was already there when I bought the place.I was thinking of painting the concrete floor with some good paint.I have seen lots of grey floors and some red ones. What are some good theories on what color to go with?I just want it to look clean and neat and durable.Thanks.

Definately use the lightest color possible.
There two kinds of coating for these surfaces that are durable.
1. is porch ad floor enamel, the pros with this stuff is that it's cheap and easy to apply but not as durable as epoxy.
2. is two part epoxy and must be mixed with equal parts of each ingredient. Pros with this stuff is excellent durability but make sure it hardens [cures] for 48 hours before use, also make sure the concrete is between 60 to 90 degrees during application and curing for best durability and adhesion. Once mixed up you will have to use it all or it will cure in the can. Hope this helps.
I used to be a painter and did a lot of these and the 2 part epoxy was always the way to go.
There are latex enamels for concrete but they will peel within 3 years every time.

Jack:

Consider throwing some clean silca sand on the paint while it is still wet. I have done this over the years in painting my floors... Why you ask?? Boy when you get water or oil on it and you walk across it you can wind up on your fanny in no time. Good luck...

Jack, the shop floor here at the dealership is sort of a whitish-gray, and holds up pretty well. Keep in mind that with a darker color like red, you will need much more lighting, as the darker colors tend to absorb the light, rather than reflect it like a lighter color will. I also believe that our shop floor isn't really covered in regular paint, but rather it's more like an epoxy-type substance that is much more durable. We also use paper-based floor dry rather than the normal kind, as it keeps the finish on the floor from becoming scratched as quickly, and aids in light reflection.
