Mark, Make sure your carb float is at the right level. Also, did the tractor sit outside with fuel in it over a winter. I learned the hard way that the base of these need to be drained of water because the excess water will freeze and distort the float. If you set the float height at the tab and the float itself is bent, it will not be as it should and cause an over rich mixture. If you put a carb kit in, did you clean the carb, or just pull out the old and in with the new. There is a couple of small passages that have to be clean in order for this to idel right. Oddly enough, they are the idel passages that work when the tractor is ideling. They should be at the bottom of the carb opening, before the throttle valve, and go down into the base. If you are careful, you can use a welding tip cleaner and clean these out. I used a carb dip solution that can be purchased at NAPA or just about any auto parts store for about $12.00. It comes in a one gallon can. Separate your carb, and make a picture if you don't have one of how it goes back together, and let it soak. Remeber, you will have about 40 years of dirt, paint and other stuff in your can when its done. Don't mix up the load and mixture needles. Also, make sure you get the gaskets back where they belong. I usually clean the parts in a solvent tank along with a can of carb cleaner to make sure all the passages are open. Check you throttle shaft for excess play if you did clean it as stated above, it may be in need of replacement. Hope this helps, Lyle
