Picked up a styled A the other day and needed to do a little valve work among other things...It had a newer head gasket on there and just to see if I had cleared up the problem, when I re assembled the head, I re-used the head gasket and torqued it to spec. Tractor runs well, although the right cylinder is a little weak and I was told before I bought it that they had same compression in each cylinder. But what bothers me is that there is water in the oil. I had flushed the crankcase and put in new oil. I don't think that there was water in it before, but I drained the oil after dark, then put it on the burn pile, so it's gone now...ANYWAY, the oil in it now is NOT milky or white...it is just runny and grey....which to me means that NOT MUCH seeps in there...I would think that if it had a crack, with as much as I have run it, there would have been some other problem...I know that you are not suppossed to re use gaskets, but I have done it before with success (to check quick fixes, only)...what do you guys think??? AC

I have reused head gaskets in a pinch and what we did was use the pigment from the bottom of a settled-out aluminum paint can. That particular paint held headgaskets when nothing else would. We used to run a hot rod with a Hudson engine and we used up all of the available headgaskets in the eleven western states. Once we began using the paint as permatex we never had another one blow out.

AC, reusing a head gasket is risky business. Especially if you didn't use sealer on the gasket.
~I don't know if that is your water leak problem but it would be good place to start. ~"Not much" water seeping into the crankcase is kind of like "not much" of an explosion, any is too much..
