Will a 4010 diesel pull a 145 plow with 5-16's. I want something I can use with the 4010 to plow around the edge of some fields. Is the 145 a decent plow. I saw and ad for a couple of 5-16's for $150 a piece. Thanks. Steve

Thanks for the input. I was thinking that 5-16's might be a bit much for the old girl. I guess I will keep my eyes peeled for a good JD, Oliver, or IH with 4-16's. We have mostly good black dirt that is not very tight. This thing will never plow anything but the edges of fields. It is just a toy to go with dad's old 4010. We have all the other tractors tied up with harvesting and ripping equipment this time of year. I thought if I could find a nice old plow to go with the 4010 I would put her to use. It would save me the trouble of dragging out the 2800 with 5-18's later this fall. That thing has not seen the light of day in a good many years. Thanks guys.

Well Guys... I am't sure if a 4010 will do 5-16 plow..... I have a 5-16 plow and using 71 JD 4000 it's pulling it fine and great.. Dirt is at middle of Nebraska.

145s are decent plows, but I would suggest 5-16s would be too much for your 4010, if you anticipate any "serious" plowing. With a little judicious use of a torch, you should be able to make a 4-bottom out of it. Cutting the beam to the correct length should be easy, don't know what you'd run into about the length of the steering rod.

Sounds like a lot of work to convert a $150 5-16 plow when for $150 you can buy a 4-16 or even 4-14 plow which would already be the right size!

Of course, after "butchering" a f145 5-16, you would have the benifit of owning a plow worth the same value as scrap metal. Who knows, scrap price could be more than the $150!

145 plows are a dime a dozen. $200.00 usually gets you a real nice one with good iron, at least here in Michigan. If you are just going to play, go with a 4-16. You'll have more time to enjoy yourself. :-)

Don't know what soil you have but we have a variety up to the red clay and we use ta use a f145 4-14 w/ 4020 and had no probs. So it is all up to soil and deepness.
