I was cranking my 730 and the starter would engage and kick out, well it kicked out and broke the cone of the starter off. I don't know if a gear tooth mislined on the ring gear or what. I was told that the tractor could be out of time and this can happen..this ever happen to any of you? or have you heard of this happing to anyone? Thanks Ben

Was the tractor running before this happened? Had you been working on it before trying to start it? Look for the simple obvious things first, then try for the harder things. Could have just been one of those freak things? I can brag on my square baler if its baleing real good and not missing any bales and next one it will miss, wonder if it can hear me?

Yes my friend,

I went thruogh three nose cones on my 1946 A before I found out my timing was advanced too far at start up. I run high copression pistons and that makes it even worse. What is happening is the spark is ocuing before the piston has reached top dead center and then it mometarily wants to turn the engine backwards. On the diesels they actually can fire wrong and run backwards!
