I just finished putting a carb. kit on my 420,before the carb had no leaks at all,but now the fuel screw on the bottom "drips". (by the way my skills are not quite "shade tree" yet,I noticed as I was doing the repair that the bottom screw had no o'ring or seal to replace(there possibly were remnants that I didnt notice tho) I'm sure i'm missing a critical piece here .....could anyone set me on the right road? Thanks for any and all comments. Robert inLa.

Robert

The parts book shows a packing that the needle goes through. I can't remember if mine had a packing or an O ring (think it was Oed) but it does't seep or leak.

Robert, it is common for those to leak there. There is supposed to be a seal under the lock nut that the (L) shaped adjusting screw goes through. The kits that I get from Carquest have a felt or cotton type seal that goes there, it does not fit good and you sort of have to pack it in and then tighten the lock nut firmly after desired setting is made. You will not be able to adjust it, if you tighten it enough to not leak. I don't know if a kit from Deere would have a better seal or not. Maybe Robert's Carb. Service has something better.
