Thank you all for your advice on my last question, I went to look at a 4520 and you were right, I think I'll pass on it. Still looking to swap a diesel into my 4010. Will a 6600 combine engine fit? parts book list it as a 404 cid. I know the flywheel would be different form the combine to tractor. will the gas flywheel bolt in,and be balanced? will it fit at all?

My brother bought a 4020 diesel for 500.00 with a bad engine//He took a engine out of a 105 combine diesel and put it in the 4020. the tractor run great. He got it in fairly quick, I don't know what all he had to swap out to make it work. He did this about 3 months ago.. Good luck

I have to agree with the others about a total tractor trade out. I have never attempted such a change out but can see how much of a headache it would be and you would probably come out cheaper getting a 4020 or a 4010 diesel allready set up and going. I love my 4020, 65 model with 48 loader on it. Work great in my custome hay baling business. I have old iron and the old iron works for a living! You might even consider a 3020 diesel as well. got one of them too and its been a real good haying tractor. In changing over to a 4020 or 3020 you would also be updating on features such as a better pto set up, powershift option, and more horsepower. Just a few thoughts. I am not knocking the 4010 by any means whatsoever here now, in fact I have an agreement going that I will be acquireing a 4010LP in the not too distant future from a friend of mine and my intent is to restore it and possibly use it in the haying as well? Hope this helps!

Level-land 6600's used a 329 Dubuque-built diesel engine from 1970-1976. Only the 1977-78 model 6600's used the 404 engine, with the exception of the Sidehill 6600 or Hillside 6602, all of which used the 404 engine. Combines using the 404 were the 1964-up 105 with diesel engine and 7700 combines.

A word to the wise. Unless you really want the headache and expense of converting your 4010 Gas to a diesel engine, you'd be better off to sell your gas-burner, and take the money you get from it, plus the money you'd spend converting it, and buy a nice 4010 or 4020 Diesel. Otherwise, what you're going to have is a cobbled up tractor with much less resale value.

Just my .02

I think the 4010 gas flywheel will work with the diesel from the 6600. The flywheels from either of these engines would be dynamically balanced, and not counterweighted. BE SURE the diesel from the combine has the holes drilled in the front of the block where the hydraulic pump bracket attaches. Some of the combine engines did not have these holes drilled, although that may apply to engines from combines newer than the 6600.
