My freinds 530 binds in steering when you turn right.Left turn goes to 1250 psi straight is abot 100 psi. Thats what it should be the book says but I have nothing when you turn right. It binds and locks up has no psi. Changed fluid worked back and forth to get air out and still no change. Any ideas?????

I had the same problem with my 620 power steering. I rebuilt the entire unit last year so I'm not sure exactly what was making it lock up. I suspect it was a combination of factors actually. The large steering gear was extremely worn so I rotated it 180 degrees to get "new" wear surface. I replaced the shims to get the correct clearance at the gear as shown in the JD power steering manual. The vane seals were completely shot so they were replaced as well. The vane pins seemed to be in good shape though. Also, found out that it took four tubes of grease for the lower pedestal housing. Centered the control valve with the front end (narrow front) off of the ground and it operates great now. Hope this helps.

I've found from experience that problems like this are hit and miss and always pull the pedistal off and check for broken vane pins. Then replace the vane seal. Also I replace the large gear 180degrees opposite to eliminate a wear factor there. Then I go to the control unit and or valves. I've found that this takes less time than messing from point to point, hunting for a problem. Good luck, Chuck

Zack, it could be a few things. Give us a little history on how/when the problem started & maybe we can help pin it down a little.
~While it could be a vane problem, that usually shows up as bi-directional. Your problem sounds more like mis-adjusted control valve or actuating sleeve/helix wear or actuating sleeve cam or cam spring problem.
~Knowing how or when the problem started will help in finding the place to start.
~You might want to pull the front actuating valve pressure line from the valve & lean it forward, then re-tighten the lower fitting & place the open end in a 1 gallon jug, then turn the steering wheel to the right & start the engine & run at WOT, while it is running turn the wheel all the way to the right & hold it there, [caution: dont turn to the left] & see how much oil is by-passing the vanes, if over -3/4 quart in 30 seconds suspect a steering vane leakage problem.
~Try loosening the 4 bolts holding the steering valve & centering the steering valve so the effort is the same in both directions, just because the pressure is at 100# in the center doesnt mean it is centered correctly. You need to move it until the turning force is the same in both directions [or at least try]. If you can't adjust it out by moving the steering valve you have other problems. If that is ok your problem lies with the steering valve, actuating sleeve or sleeve cam /cam spring or looseness in the steering worm bearings.
