Just purchased my first 2 cyl diesel, a 70 std. Someone has installed an alternator and changed all the wiring. I want to put it back to original. I've purchased a new switch which came with a resistor wire loose in the box. Which contacts should the resistor be connected to? Also need a wiring diagram. I have a diagram for a 720 D, but it is a little different than a 70 D. Was wondering if I should purchase a wiring harness I've seen advertised to make things easier. They seem a little pricey.

Contact Agri Services for wiring harnesses made to order, switches, and battery cables. They can answer all questions on cutout relays, alternators, and other electrical problems.

Ron..the resistor connects to the "ign" and the "res" terminal on the back of the switch. If the tractor had been converted to an alternator, it must gone to 12 volts. There shoud be a large resistor somewhere in the wiring to step it back down to 6 volts to protect the gauges and the pony engine coils/points. The other switch you will probably need to replace is the push button "rocker switch" for checking fuel level before start up. The wire from the generator feeds back through this switch.
