Drawbar on 39 H

Does any other model use the same drawbar as the 39 H? Mine is in really sad shape. Looks like it was worn out and cobbled up to work some more. The support bracket is a mess too. I haven't had any luck finding any Hs in salvage yards I've been to. The parts book shows 2 different drawbars and supports. I'm not sure which I have. The one for the later H shows it's also used on tractors with PTO Conversion assembly. My tractor has PTO.
How can I tell if mine has the original or the later assembly? Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

Frank,
As you probably know, Drawbar AH508R and Support AH507R were used from serial numbers H1000-H7185. Then, still in the 1939 model year, the parts changed to Drawbar H675R and Support AH772R starting with serial number H7186. AH508R had only one front pivot hole (you couldn't adjust fore and aft position with that one), and it had two stamped "finger" clips welded to it, one each on top and bottom, that allowed the drawbar to sort of pinch the cross bar of the support bracket. The later drawbar didn't have the clips welded on, and also had two holes near the front to allow fore and aft length adjustments. AH507R support had only a single bottom crossmember, while AH772R had the bottom crossmember as well as an rear end crossmember. AH772R also had some exterior gusset reinforcement patches welded to the sides. Oh, yeah, there is at least one more drawbar -- H1030R, that started at serial number H47795. I don't know exactly what is different about that final drawbar, except I think it had an extra hole about 4 or 5 inches ahead of the normal drawbar pin hole.

To answer your question, I believe if you have PTO it would be correct to have the later drawbar and support. If you want, in a few days I could scan some parts illustrations and email them to you.

I wonder if there wasn't a field modification program on that original AH507R drawbar support to add the side gussets and top piece at the rear. Most of the welds I've seen on those pieces look as though they were made in the field. I've never seen one with just the bottom piece, but my operator's manual dated '39 shows the support woth just the bottom piece.

That might be a possibility. The welds on this one look like something you'd find on the floor of the chicken house. LOL

Thanks for the information. Pictures would be helpful. My drawbar doesn't have any fore and aft adjustment but there are no fingers welded to it either. It's entirely possible there could've been at one time though. The bar measures 27 inches overall length and it'd made of 3/4 X 2 bar stock. The end is offset about 2 inches. There is only one hole in each end. At some time it has had some 1/2 inch plate welded to it to either stiffen it or repair a break. The support has the gussets welded on the outside of the angle iron.. This looks like a factory job. The picture in the parts book shows a brace on the support that goes above the drawbar. Mine does not look like the one pictured. I suspect it was modified to accomodate the extra thickness of the drawbar at this point.
It has also had some extra holes burned into it with a torch, so I don't think I'll try to salvage it. Thanks again for your time.

I got them. Thanks. I printed them off and I'll save them for future reference.
Thanks again.
