How many points (sweeps) on a chisel plow can a 4010 pull? The plow is a mohawk 1100 and has 6 adjustable points on the rear beam and 5 adjustable points on the front beam.

I think its an 8 ft wide plow, and I think I will keep 6 or 7 shanks on it, should they all be of the front beam or staggered?

Years ago we used to pull 8 with our 4020, our 3020 had it's hands full trying to pull 6. 3" wide twisted shovels.

I have a 7 shank IH chisel that I used behind my 3020 diesel. It pulled it but it did earn its keep. If I were looking for a chisel for a 4010 I would try to keep it just as wide as the tractor or just a tad wider and keep it around 7 or 8 shanks. chisels put a heavy load on a tractor. How wide is the Mohawk chisel? I have heard to figure 10 horsepower per shank, don't know if thats accurate or not but its a good place too start. Hope this helps.

The best you will probably do is 7 shanks under ideal conditions. If you have hardpan or clay you may be down to 5 with 2 shovels at 7-8 inches. Also you may have to add duals and or alot of weight to the tractor to make it pull effectively. You have left too many variables open, tire size, pulltype or 3pt,shovel size, ground composition, flat or hilly to give a really good answer.
