I am rebuilding 47 A using over size pistons, wondering how much hp.will be gained by decking the block? I know it's going to raise the comperssion which in turn should increase hp.but by how much? I was planning to take 50k off the block, how much is to much?I do have plans for a different carb. and intake system, due to the restrictions of the carb and filtration system.I am in the hunt for a DLTX51 carb, not sure on the filtration yet.

You can mill the block 50 thou and be ok, its really not going to increase your HP that much, yes it will help, but not dramatically. You can also mill the head down, 50 thou or whatever. AT least you will have to good mating surfaces for head gasket fit up. I do not know what size over your pistons are but you need some pretty good cubes to keep up with the amount of fuel the 51 carb is going to give you. An A with .125 over pistons, stock crank, no milling to the head or block and a good 71 carb rebuild will put out 45 HP and run good. Just depends on what you want to do, it is fun to mill and shave here and there just all in what you want. Good luck,
