The "55" series was first assembled at Horicon, WI then switched to Augusta, GA. The engines and transaxles are from Yanmar. They are hydrostatic transmission only. The "50" and replacement "70" series was imported complete from Yanmar. They are gear transmissions only. The 1250 - 1650 were also imported complete from Yanmar.

The "55" and "70" series have been replaced by the 4000 series which offers both gear and hydro transmissions and the 1250-1650, along with some Mannheim models, have been replaced by the 5000 series. Both the 5000 series and 4000 series are assembled at Agusta, GA.

Yes, both the JD "50" and "70" series of compact utility tractors were made by Yanmar in Japan. You may have noticed that there are now a few "90" series in the JD line in addition to the 4000 series. These also come from Yanmar. Additionally, the smallest of the 4000 series, the model 4010, 4110 and 4115 also come from Yanmar. All the 4000 series have Yanmar engines and all but the the 4200, 4300 and 4400 have Yanmar transmissions.
