I was working with my 70D and loader the other day, and when I got off the tractor, I noticed oil all over the rear of the governor case, like I had a significant leak. I washed it down and watched while it was running, but no oil showed up. Then I realized that while that oil had dust in it, it was still fairly clear, so I looked in the pony aircleaner and it was low. Seems that while I was digging, the front wheels of the tractor would be substantially lower than the rear as I would drive down and back up the slope. I guess at that angle, the oil in the pony aircleaner would run out the front lip of the cup. Without a gasket there, there really isn't a way to keep that oil in if it slops around.

Now here's the question:

Could a fella use an oiled foam element in there like they use on a lawn mower engine and still have the protection that you need for the engine ? Or should I try to fit a small pleated paper element, like for a single barrel carb or motorcycle carb, or a Tecumseh 8 hp up in there ? I realize the diesel vents through this aircleaner, too, and a paper element might get oil soaked from the mist.

Just looking for suggestions and alternatives.

Trying to keep the old girl clean as I can even though I'm working her.

I had that prob with mine too. I used either a old 70 or 3020 oil filter seal. It fit perfect and gives a tight seal with out ruining the apperance. It was a snug fit and have to watch that it don't twist. Eventually got it on and it's been great since!

I agree with BJ. Would rather see it sealed there rather than restrict the flow of air with foam. I have an old Cummins with paper element breathers on it and they will stop up with blow by oil and push the dipstick out. Of course it's a fairly new engine too (1964)!

Just a thought Frank but have you give any thought to putting a small bead of silicone around the top of rhe bowl before installing it?
