Hi guys, I have a '43 JD B now but I've been looking for a new generation JD to do some work on 57 acres of land I own. Mostly mowing, road maintainance and snowblowing. A loader would be a must. Well on my way to work the other day I saw a 1960 3010 for sale, gas with 6,222 hrs. on the meter. Tin is fair to good, front tires are new, rear tires are not weather checked but miss mached and less then 30%. It has two remotes, no rust or visable leaks. Tractor comes with a loader, four bottom plow, 7' rotary cutter (I dont know the make but says whistler on the ID tag), 7' international snow blower, a soft cab for winter use and wheel weights. His price is $8,000 firm. All I'd be missing is a blade for the road work and I see these for sale once and a while for reasonable prices. Question. Is the price ball park? Should I be afraid of this model? Are there particular problems with them? I've been told to be leary of the 1010 and 2010 but is this true of the 3010 also? I live in northern Maine if it makes a difference. Thanks in advance.

If the equipment comes with it, I'd make the decision based on the tractor's worth of around $4500, then add what you think the loader, plow, snowblower, and rotary cutter are worth. If you think they are worth $3500, then it is worth it. Personally, the loader had better be something great, as to the 4 bottom plow...(likely 14" bottoms) and you won't be pulling it deep so isn't worth much (I tried pulling 3 16" bottoms and couldn't keep her in 2nd gear...but my 3010D is turned down and only cranking 50-52hp...was trying for 8" depth). Don't now much about the IH snow blower so can't even guess what that would be worth. Being a 7' foot is nice, as then you won't be driving on the snow when trying to use it (the 3010 should be about 7' wide if set to 36" rows...around 7'2" for mine).

The wheel weights are worth about $0.70 to about $1.0 a pound, and can be hard to find sometimes. The wheel weights are a must for the 3010, as it is an extremely light tractor (6000# for 3010D shipped dry). Biggest complaint about the xx10 series was the light weight.

A decent gas 3010 goes for around 3500 to 4500. You could do a lot better IMHO.

The 3010 is a Waterloo tractor while the 1010 and 2010 are Debuque. 3010's were good tractors, especialy the diesels. If there is nothing major wrong with the tractor it may be worth that much. I would try more like $6,500.
