3010 Rear PTO seal Leaking

Just replaced the rear PTO seal on my 1963 3010 Diesel because it was leaking pretty good. After replacement, it still leaks just as much as it did before. The old seal was not driven into the quill housing all the way so I thought that is why it might have been leaking. I drove the new one in all the way until it seated. I put the new one in facing the same way as the old one. With the exterior side of the seal housing down against the bench top, I placed the seal in with the part number side down. I think that is the correct way but wanted to check with the experts to make sure. I ran the PTO at speed for about 1/2 hour after replacement to make sure it was seated against the shaft.

It could be that my PTO shaft is worn down so much that it will never seal. This tractor is a former hay baler so the PTO was run a lot.

Anyone have any suggestions on how I can get it to seal and stop leaking oil.

Appreciate any and all suggestions.

Thanks.

Sounds like the seal is in right and should be ok. Did you replace the Oring on the shifter rod? That is the rod in the center of the PTO shaft under the stub shaft. You have to remove the small snap ring, and pull the shifter rod out a few inches. This little Oring gives more trouble than the seal, and it looks like the oil is coming from the seal.
