Does anyone know what a 720 Diesel is worth? It is in good running order.

What a loaded question. I have seen posts like this and a couple of guys will say what they paid and even tell a guy if he pays over so much he is getting screwed. So some guy pays $5,000 for a tractor that isn't worth $1,500 and some guy with $10,000 invested in a tractor that can't get over $5,000. Even with your own labor PARTS ARE BIG BUCKS. I would rather pay top dollar and then some if the tractor came with a written history. (reciepts) We have 2 730D Our main one has 1200 hrs on a COMPLETE engine rebuilt, new paint, new tires. We had it since 1977 and it was due. We paid $2,300 for it and the way it sits today we have close to $15,000 in it. The other one we paid $2,200 and the day it come home we put in $2,000 for looks. new tires,, rims muffler, battery box seat, etc. We did rebuild the pumps and injectors. Added a 3 pt and a wide front end. If we work it hard, it will burn 1 qt of oil a day. The tractor the way it sits today it has $7,000 in it and we haven't done anything major. If we overhaul this engine we will have over $10,000 in this $2,200 tractor. We use these tractors everyday. So to say a 730D is worth $5,000 is just plane nuts. Same way with a 720D or any tractor. It is worth what a willing buyer is willing to pay and what a willing seller will take. REMEMBER<<<

REMEMBER....A new paint job is NOT a restored tractor. A restored tractror is one that has been disasembled, renewed and put back together again.

Thanks Mr. Hanley this tractor has been rebuilt and it does have a new paint job. The guy is wanting $4,000 for it. I was just wanting to know a fair price for it. I have an (A) model john Deere that I gave $900 for a few years back. I have never had any dealing with a 720 and do not know what a fair price was for one. Thanks

Rebuilt, restored, overhauled are all vague terms. One man's rebuild is new rings, ground valves and a tube of instant gasket. Another's is boring, honing, new pistons, new valves, guides and seats. Rebuilt pumps and injectors plus a equally rebuilt starting engine. A flywheel/crank that isn't loose is way into four digits. Chassis style ( rare in US standard or common as dirt row-crop) and amount of original remaining three point hitch and fenders also count. $2000.00 easy spent there for re-pos. A set of four new tires will eat $1500.00 easy plus new rims are often required after calcium chloride has eaten them.
