I have a late model A and i can not get the idle screw to work. I have cleaned the carburator numerous times and have removed all the plugs and used compressed air in all the holes, but still I can not get the idle screw to have anyy effect when i adjust it. The engine idles smooth with only the very slightest bit of hunting. I have to use the load screw to adjust the ildle and when i adjust the load screw all the way down, the tractor will stall. Can any one guid me onn what to look for to fix this?

I take a wire brush and pull one wire out with a pair of pliars and then use that as a tool to run the rust out of the little hole(s) to be found in such a carb. No joy with just air alone. There is one of these little holes plugged with junk of some kind, as that's how I fixed my B which had the same symptom - no control over the idle mixture.

Charles,

In addition to what Clooney has said, just a note - Those PESKY Mud Dobbers like to plug your air intake stack. It is fun getting the mud out of them. Speaking from experience.

Charles, if the tractor idles good & the idle needle [outside needle] has no effect I would suspect you either have an incorrect idle needle, damaged needle, for some reason the needle won't screw in all the way, or the fuel is somehow by-passing the idle control circuit. It wouldn't hurt to see if the air bleed to the idle channel is open as that can cause mixture problems but the idle needle should still close that off when screwed all the way in.
~By closing the load needle you will effectively close the fuel off to the idle channel but it won't have enough fuel to the main nozzle to pull a load. Or if it is pulling fuel from the main nozzle during idle, then closing the load needle will effect that.
~Drop the float bowl down & see if the idle needle is actually seating & the seat isn't damaged.
~One other thing to check is for a very restricted air cleaner or air intake or even a partially closed choke. If there is an intake restriction it will pull fuel from the main nozzle & not the idle ports & will overpower the small idle passages.
