An amazing experience.

Stopped by the dealership:

Is it possible to get a S/H meter for my 720?

Out comes the parts book, shuffle, shuffle, shuffle. Over to the computer. Look of Surprise.

Yes, the regional office has one in stock.

P/N AR21664 $127.08

Be in Wed.

Went down and picked it up today. Gorgeous!

D. McIntyre, the AR21664 is for the optional 8 MPH 5th gear. The tac RPM part should work ok but the MPH for all but 6th gear will be off as all the gear speeds except 6th gear changed when the optional 5th gear was added. If you have the optional 8MPH 5th gear in your tractor the speeds will be much closer.

Thats very interesting.

The main reason for the meter is to get a reliable way to check engine hours for maintenance proceedures and to get some idea of the engine RPM.

I got the meter and the new cable installed and for the first time I have some idea about engine RPM. What a great feeling!

Question? Am I therefore to assume that the other gear speeds are fairly close other than the 5th Gear? I don't know if I have the optional gear or not.

Now the only thing not working on the tractor is the fuel guage, the 1st-3rd gear selector function, and of course the cigarette lighter. :)

D. McIntyre, that new meter should be fairly accurate when showing RPM on the RPM scale. The road speeds will be off in all but 6th gear. ~The hours won't be any different than the original meter but still won't show an accurate hours of usage unless the engine is run at rated RPM. ~If you have the optional 5th gear you would probably know it as that new 5th is pretty fast. You can also tell, with the optional 5th gear the top left slot on the left side of the quadrant will be 2nd instead of 1st & the top left slot on the right side of the quadrant will be 5th instead of 3rd.....

Cloony:

I reread your post and answered my own question.

However, this meter is massively better than one that was only accurate when the engine was shut down! :)
