Unstyled G. Mag was working fine. Used the tractor for a ground for a patato luancher, The mag lost all fire after that.We used a plunger ignitor off a bbr grill for a firing device and grounded it to the front steering assembly with a small aligator clip and some wire. Would this have possible been the cause of the mag failure. I have heard of magnetos on old autos depolorizing, but from different causes. Any thoughts ?? Thanks in Advance

Darren, it's possible but probably unlikely.
~I have welded on many tractors that have mags & created a much bigger magnetic field than your grill igniter without any repercussions.
~If the tractor was/is stored outside I would suspect water or condensation in the mag.
~What make & model mag are you working with? See if the mag has any condensation in it & if it has moisture or rust in it. If so clean that & clean or replace the points/condenser then see if you have spark.
~If you have a Wico mag you can send the mag rotor to Roberts Carb to have the rotor re-magnetized for little money & a fairly quick turn around. If you send the whole mag it will take much longer...
