I bought a old A and Im putting it back together,it was a basket case. There are no marks on the flywheel or clutch driver. What is a good way to get them on the correct splines so everything is correct and in time and balance. I dont see any marks on the clutch side of crank and on the flywheel side there is 3 center punch marks. Thanks for any help.

Rod, Several years ago I had a similar problem on a '37 B where the end of the crankshaft was destroyed. I also was stumped on how to line things up; however, I posted the question on this board and got several very helpful answers. I'll try to repeat the advice that I was given then.

The flywheel and the clutch disk each have a "heavy" spot on them. This is clearly visible by inspection.

From one gentleman, "The heavy side of the clutch disk has to be 180 opposite from the heavy side of the flywheel. That's to reduce cross harmonic vibrations. The crank itself and rods and pistons are static in balance, but the flywheel and disk are purposely out of balance but on opposite sides from each other." And from a second gentleman, "The heavy sector of the clutch disk needs to be exactly opposite of the #2 throw. In other words, if the #2 throw is at TDC, then the heavy sector of the clutch disk needs to be at BDC. The flywheel heavy sector needs to be opposite the #1 throw."

I followed this information when I reassembled my "B" and it worked great. Good luck!! John in OH

I just got finished with one and had trouble finding them too. They were there but had to take a file and file the ends of the cranck till they were real clean and shiney then you could see the V shape marks. Other than that i don't know much else to tell you. good luck.ken
