To remove the right main bearing on an H, is it first necessary to go inside the crankcase and disconnect the oil line as on the left side? I can't tell for sure the way the parts book diagrams are put together.

Leon, the answer is no. The oil line to the RH main bearing is connected to a tapped hole on the inside of the case, and not to the bearing housing itself, unlike the LH bearing housing. The three studs you see on the outside of the case are the only things that attach the housing to the case. Oil for the RH main is brought to a tapped hole inside the case and is pumped into a cavity at the bottom of the bearing housing, below the bottom stud. From there, the oil travels through a drilled hole and is delivered to the cavity at the end of the crankshaft. When you remove the bearing housing, you will then understand the reason for the peculiar, pointy-bottom shape of the bearing housing.

Thanks. Somehow I thought that was the situatiuon, but wanred to confirm. I may have to take the clutch apart and while that side of the engine is stripped off, I want pull that main off and check it. The LH main was really loose, but I understand that because of the LH main's higher loading, they are usually prone to more wear.
