Just starting to tear down a 420T LP. I noticed after knocking the pistons out, the rods were magnetized. When starting to slip the rod caps back on thier respective rods, the caps would stick to the rods or bolts like a magnet. What would cause this? Never seen it before...The tractor was running before dissasembly.

Wayne, possibly a previous magnaflux of the rods. If not that then I don't know. You can magnetize a steel rod by pounding on the end with a hammer but it is hard to believe the firing pulses hammered those rods enough to magnetize them. ~In any case you should degauss them before using so they don't attract metal particles...

Thanks for the reply, Clooney. I have already degaussed them. Just thought it was an intresting tidbit. Actually they were heavily magnetized. You could touch the cap to the rod and have to use a little muscle to pull them apart. Thanks..
