Have a 730 diesel with the pony motor on it and noticed the other day that the fly wheel has a crack near the splined part and on the outside there is a chunk missing. Was wondering if it can be repaired and if it cannot what other flywheels possibly may fit this application.

I doubt there would be any repairs, however they make a taper lock flywheel assy for for worn cranks. I would speculate that you are probably now running with less than factory torque which could and or will result in crankshaft damage. I see no reason you couldn't use another JD flywheel.

I am working on 73O DIESEL with the tapor lock flywheel. The tractor will start and run fine when towed by another tractor. But the tractor will not start with the pony engine. The pony is running at the right speed and the clutch is not slipping. Do you have any suggestions.

thank you, Brad Germain

I think that the reason that the flywheel is cracked to begin with is because someone over torqed the flywheel bolts and that is why it cracked. There is no visible play in the flywheel but from where the crack is there is no way that there isn't some play in the flywheel.
