My 4840 is getting oil in the radiator. Hoping for a bad oil cooler, I took it off, built a test stand and found no leak. Now do I pull the head or the pan? There is no visible compression in the water nor is there any water in the oil. Which way would my chances be best in finding the problem?

Heard another man say he had broken head bolts one time so that gives me a lead to start on the upper end. Thanks

If it does turn out to be a head bolt, do yourself a favor and go ahead and replace all the bolts and the gasket. Head gaskets are hard enought to keep in those higher horsepower 466s as it is. The bolts are also torque-to-yield, so if one is broken, it's more than likely that others are nearing the breaking point also. If you intend to get rid of the tractor, you could band-aid it. If you plan on keeping it awhile, do it right. I would also have the head checked for flatness and check the liner protrusion while it's apart.

Check for a broken head bolt. Half burnt fuel in the radiator looks a lot like oil. If that is the problem, and the engine is not missing, you may be able to just replace the bolt and be ok.

I dont think the 4840 has the 466 engine that has the mechanical water pump, but if it does the the water would go into the engine oil,not the other way around.
