My brother restored a 44 B. Wants to pull it. He wonders what is the best way to sneak a few more rpm's out of it. The engine has been totally gone through. Besides a little bigger piston and some headwork, the engine is pretty stock. Any help is appreciated..... ..... Thanks.

The 520 was prety much the the same engine, and it turned 1325..... I don't see why you would need more than 1250... You can't kill a good Late model "B" in 1st gear, anyway....!!!! I have seen them pull in County pulls with 15.5x38", and didn't run out of power....just ran out of traction...!!!-And Made Money, TOO.!! Using 5w-30 oil in the air filter is a good idea...

As the other guys all indicated, its the governor that currently limits the RPM, so overriding it is how to increase RPM. That spring is the tension tryign to speed her up while the governor pulls back, so increasing tension at that point can increase RPM. RPM is still limited by the amount of fuel and air you can squeeze into the cylinders, so better air flow (less restrictive air cleaner and valve porting etc) and an increase in the jetting of the carb would help. Horsepower is basically Torque x RPM, and since the stroke and compression are fixed, its mostly more RPM that will help you now. Good Luck, Ol John T in Indiana

wire the governor spring to the governor arm to allow the engine to wind up higher
