My 3010 just started slipping out of gear in 8th gear going down hill. Is there any adjustment I can make on the shift lever to correct this problem?

Yes, the JD service manual has a fairly extensive section on adjustment. Course the adjustments made affect all gears not just a specific one. My 3010 will not engage in 3rd sometimes when going from R1 to 3rd. I always shift from R1 to 1st and then to 3rd and have managed to get by without any problems.

There is shifting linkage under the dash and down along side behind the battery box on right side. Each of the pivot points could have wear and can be fixed by getting the holes back to spec. or putting in new pins (if pins are wearing).

If none of this helps, then you'll have to check the transmission out. The deck plate can be removed to get at the top cover of the transmission. You may be able to remove that cover and watch the action of the shifting arms to see if you can determine the exact problem...also allows you to inspect the actual gears without splitting the tractor (or at least that is my guess...never had the plate off, so am going on theory...may not be as open and as obvious than book likes to make it look from diagrams).

Mine did this until I fixed it, I tied a 12" tarp strap around it and hooked the other end to a hole beneath the key. Works good and never fails! Sure beats a tranny tear-down!!!!! !!
